Gentlemen,

Foreign Office, August 21, 1911. WITH reference to your letter of the 5th instant suggesting that the Indian sales of uncertificated opium should be further reduced, I am directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to inform you that the 14,000 chests for 1912 are a provisional figure only, and that the Government of India have undertaken to reconsider the matter in the light of information regarding the opium requirements of other countries which is being collected.
